Editing on the canvas
Most of an email is written right on the canvas: type into a heading, select three blocks and move them together, paste a section from another email. This page covers those editing tools. For the panels around the canvas, see the Studio overview.
Typing and formatting
Double-click a text, heading, list item or button label on the canvas (or click the text of a block that's already selected, or press Enter) to edit it in place. A small toolbar appears over the text with bold, italic, underline, a link, a color from your theme, a merge tag and clear formatting. Escape or a click outside finishes the edit, and the whole edit is one undo step.
Formatting is kept to what every email app shows: bold, italic, underline, links, line breaks and color. A link opens the same link editor as a button's, with tracking and UTM tags. Merge tags stay as {{field}} pills inside the text.
Selecting several blocks
Shift-click or Cmd/Ctrl-click blocks on the canvas or in the layers to select more than one. With several selected you can delete, duplicate, move, wrap them in a section or save them as one component, all as one undo step.
Right-click any block for the Block actions menu: cut, copy, paste, duplicate, delete, move, select parent, wrap in section, save as component, lock, and Mia AI. Each action shows its shortcut. Press ? for the full list of keyboard shortcuts.
Copy and paste
Copy and Paste use your system clipboard, so blocks paste into another email or another browser tab. A pasted block gets fresh ids, so it never collides with what's already there. Pasting plain text makes a text block; pasting an image address makes an image block.
Sections
The Insert panel's Sections tab holds ready-made sections with real previews, drawn in this email's theme: Headers, Heroes, Content, Products, Testimonials, Interactive and Footers. Drag one onto the canvas or click to add it at the end. It arrives as ordinary blocks you can change.
Insert template adds the blocks of one of your templates into this email, and Replace with template swaps the whole email for one (Undo brings it back).
Components
Select one or more blocks and choose Save as component… to keep them for reuse. Components appear under My components in the Sections tab for every email in your account. Rename them, sort them into folders, or switch the view to Shared with team to see what teammates saved.
Synced components
Tick Keep synced when you save a component, or insert one with Insert synced, and its content follows the saved component: edit the component once and every email that uses it changes on its next send. Each email can still change the component's text, images and links for itself, and those changes are listed under This email's text, images and links.
- Edit component opens the component itself; Save to all saves it for every email that uses it, and the panel says how many that is.
- Detach turns it back into ordinary blocks in this email.
- A synced component holds content only (text, images, buttons, layout). Interactive blocks and blocks that read a data source are saved as a plain copy instead.
A sent email keeps the version of the component it was sent with.
Images
The image picker has three tabs: Library (your uploads), Stock photos (free photos you can search, with the credit added where the license asks for one) and Generate with AI. The image editor crops, rotates and resizes a picture, sets the point that stays in frame, and saves a sharp version for high-resolution screens. Write alt text in the Mia AI menu describes an image for screen readers.
