Connect Claude
Steps
- In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Paste
https://mailinapp.com/api/mcpas the remote MCP server URL. - Claude opens MailInApp's OAuth consent screen in your browser. Sign in if needed, pick which account it should act as if you belong to more than one, choose your scopes, and approve.
- Claude reconnects automatically and the tools appear in your next chat.
The same steps work from Connections in the MailInApp dashboard (/dashboard/connections), which has a copy-paste button for the URL and the identical three-step outline per platform.
What you'll see in the consent screen
Every scope that's read-only, plus contact/template management, is pre-checked. campaigns:send — letting Claude actually mail your contacts — is off by default and shown with a distinct warning treatment; check it explicitly if you want a chat to be able to trigger a real send. See Scopes & permissions for exactly what each one unlocks.
Widgets in Claude
Claude supports MCP Apps, so three of the tools render an interactive card directly in the conversation instead of a text block: preview_email/edit tools show a live desktop/mobile preview of the email being built, get_campaign_results shows a results dashboard, and prepare_send shows a card with the exact recipient count and preview plus its own Confirm & Send button — so approving a send is a click on that card, not something Claude can talk itself into on your behalf.
If a connection stops working
- "Couldn't reach the MCP server" on first connect is almost always transient — retry once. If it persists, check Connections in the dashboard to confirm you don't already have a stale connection from the same client that needs revoking first.
- A tool call fails with a permissions error — the scope it needs wasn't granted. Revoke the connection in the dashboard and reconnect, choosing that scope on the consent screen this time.
- You changed teams, or a teammate revoked your access — a connector token is re-validated against your live account membership on every call, so losing access to a company (e.g. a team owner removes you) disables that connection's calls immediately, without you needing to do anything on Claude's side.
Revoking
Connections in the dashboard lists every assistant you've approved, Claude included, with a one-click Revoke — takes effect immediately, independent of anything you do inside Claude itself.
