Version history, comments & approval

Several people can work on one email safely: every version is kept, comments sit on the blocks they're about, an approval step can stand before sending, and locked blocks keep the brand intact.

Version history

History in the studio's header opens the versions of this email. One is kept every 30 minutes while it's edited, one for each send, and one whenever you choose Save version (with an optional name). Select a version to see it as mailed, then Restore this version to bring it back. A restore is an ordinary edit, so Undo takes it back too.

How many versions an email keeps depends on your plan (10 on Free, up to 500 on the largest plans). When an email reaches its limit, the oldest unnamed autosaves go first.

Comments

Comments open a panel of threads on the email. Select a block first to pin a comment to it; with nothing selected, the comment is about the whole email. Type @ to mention a teammate: they're notified by email and on their phone. Reply, edit, Resolve a thread when it's done, or Reopen it. The filter shows open, resolved or all threads.

Viewers can read comments but can't add them, unless they're reviewing the email.

Review and approval

Review opens the email's review. Ask for a review picks up to 10 teammates and adds an optional message. Each reviewer can Approve or Ask for changes with a note saying what needs changing. The email's status follows: Draft, In review, Changes requested, Approved.

An approval covers the email as it was approved. Any later edit marks it Edited since approval, and it needs approving again. The review keeps a history of who asked, approved and asked for changes.

To make approval required, the account owner turns on Require approval before sending in Settings › Team. Then campaign sends, schedules, experiments and sends through MCP all wait until the email is approved. The owner can approve their own email.

Locking blocks

Right-click a block, or use the Inspector's Lock setting, to lock it:

  • Lock design: only its text, images and links can change.
  • Lock everything: nothing in the block can change.

A lock on a section holds every block inside it. Only the account owner and teammates with Can unlock blocks (set in Settings › Team) can lock, unlock or edit locked blocks, and the rule holds for Mia AI and connected AI tools too. Templates keep their locks, so a locked header and footer stay on-brand in every email made from them.

Editing at the same time

Avatars in the header show who else has the email open, and whether they're editing or viewing. When someone else is editing too, a banner says so.

Edits to different blocks are merged as each person saves, and the studio tells you how many blocks it merged in. If you both change the same block, autosave pauses and asks what to do: Show the block, Reload latest, or Save as copy to keep your version as a new email.
