Tabs block

Put several short panels in the space of one, behind a row of tabs: three ways to wear a product, a schedule per day, plans side by side. Each tab holds ordinary blocks, the way a column does.

How it works

Add a Tabs block, then one Tab per panel. Give each tab a Tab title and drop any blocks into it: text, images, buttons, even columns.

  • Where tabs switch (Mail on iOS, iCloud Mail and Thunderbird), recipients see the tab bar and the first tab's panel. A tap on another title shows that panel, with no JavaScript.
  • Everywhere else (every Gmail app, Yahoo, Outlook.com, the Outlook apps and classic Outlook), there's no tab bar: every tab's content shows, one after another, each under its title. Nothing is hidden behind a tap the app can't do.

Because the fallback shows every panel, keep each one short, and give every tab a title: the preflight check warns about a tab without one, since its content would sit under an empty heading.

Configurable fields:

  • Tab style: Underline (a line under the selected title) or Pills (rounded buttons).
  • Tab alignment: left, center or right.
  • Selected tab color and Tab color (theme colors by default), Tab font size.
  • Background, Padding, Border and Corner radius for the whole block.

Switching tabs isn't an interaction: nothing is recorded, and the block doesn't appear in Insights. A link or button inside a tab is tracked like any other.

Three ways to wear the flannel

A product email can show the same shirt styled three ways. An event email can put each day's schedule in its own tab. In Gmail, both read as a short list of headed sections.
